Youth For Understanding Slovakia
YFU Slovakia is a young organisation within the YFU network. Previously being served through YFU Czechoslovakia, there have been a few hundred of Slovak students abroad and little bit less exchange students visited Slovakia. But let us explain step by step:
History of YFU Slovakia
The first YFU organisation, operating in our region, was the YFU CS (YFU Czechoslovakia), which has been active from 1991 for 8 years. After YFU CS ended up its activities, Slovakia and the Czech Republic disappeared from YFU world map for several years.
In the year 2004, when a German student Steffanie Bose did accept an internship in the eastern Slovakia, the initiative of establishing a new, independently working Slovak organisation did come true. So it happened, that the first interested volunteers met at the beginning of the year 2005, and on 22nd of December 2007 the organisation was legally recognized under a full name “Mládež pre porozumenie – Youth For Understanding Slovensko“ as a non profit organisation. Since then YFU Slovakia writes its own history.
